Install

Make sure PGDG and PIGSTY repo available:

pig repo add pgsql -u   # add both repo and update cache

Install this extension with pig:

pig install omnigres;		# install via package name, for the active PG version
pig install omni_txn;		# install by extension name, for the current active PG version

pig install omni_txn -v 18;   # install for PG 18
pig install omni_txn -v 17;   # install for PG 17
pig install omni_txn -v 16;   # install for PG 16
pig install omni_txn -v 15;   # install for PG 15
pig install omni_txn -v 14;   # install for PG 14

Create this extension with:

CREATE EXTENSION omni_txn;

Usage

omni_txn: Transaction management

The omni_txn extension provides transaction linearization for stronger consistency guarantees beyond standard PostgreSQL isolation levels.

Enable Linearization

BEGIN TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL SERIALIZABLE;
SELECT omni_txn.linearize();
-- Perform operations; conflicts raise serialization errors
COMMIT;

Check Linearization Status

SELECT omni_txn.linearized();  -- returns boolean

Behavior

Linearizability ensures every operation appears to take place atomically in an order consistent with real-time ordering. The extension intercepts mutating statements (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, MERGE) and enforces:

• Write-after-read conflict detection across serializable linearized transactions
• Commit-after-read conflict detection
• Snapshot conflict detection

Raises serialization error exceptions when conflicts are detected. False positives are possible; use with retry mechanisms (compatible with omni_txn.retry).
